Fiscalía Nacional Económica

The Fiscalía Nacional Económica (FNE) is the national competition authority responsible for defending and promoting competition in all markets or productive sectors of the Chilean economy.

The Law for the Defense of Competition (DL 211) establishes that the FNE is a decentralized public entity, with legal personality and assets of its own, independent from any other entity or service, and subject to the supervision of the President of the Republic through the Ministry of Economy, Development and Tourism.

In order to carry out its work, the FNE investigates any fact, act or convention that prevents, restricts or hinders competition, or that tends to produce such effects. The enforcement work of the agency focuses primarily on collusive practices (cartels), abuses of monopoly power and mergers that affect or may affect the efficient functioning of markets and the consumer welfare.

The FNE also carries out various actions of Advocacy with the aim of creating a “culture of competition” in the country. Among them, there are a number of initiatives aimed at the community and collaboration with other government agencies.
At the international level, the FNE participates actively in various international forums related to competition policy, such as the Economic Committee of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the International Competition Network (lCN), the United Nations (UNCTAD), and the Competition Law and Policy Group (CPLG) of the Economic Committee of the APEC.

Defend and advocate for competition acting on behalf of the public interest as a specialized organization.
