The lawyer Ricardo Riesco Eyzaguirre assumed today as National Economic Prosecutor. He was appointed to the post on Monday by the President of the Republic, Sebastián Piñera, after a public contest carried out by the National Civil Service.

The new National Economic Prosecutor has a law degree from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (1994-1998), and a Master in Laws (LLM) from Columbia University (2004-2005), United States, where he also served as visiting professor between 2017 and 2018.

“It is an honor and a great challenge to assume as a National Economic Prosecutor and I do so with the responsibility of continuing to lead this institution, which is recognized for its technical profile and its great contribution to the development of the national economy,” said the Prosecutor.

In 22 years of professional career, Riesco has specialized in competition law, litigation and arbitration, holding senior positions in law firms in Chile (Claro y Cía, Philippi Yrarrázabal Pulido & Brunner Abogados and Philippi Prietocarriroza Ferrero DU & Uría Abogados) and in the United States (Clifford Chance US LLP New York).

Additionally, he has worked as an academic at Chilean universities and has written and collaborated in the writing of legal articles in Chile, Spain, the United States and Ecuador. As an expert, he has also given lectures in Chile, Peru and Brazil.

Ricardo Riesco is the eighth lawyer to occupy the position of National Economic Prosecutor. He succeeds Felipe Irarrázabal Philippi, who led the institution between 2010 and 2018.
