Lawyer Jorge Grunberg Pilowsky today assumed the role of National Economic Prosecutor for the period 2023 – 2027, after being appointed to the position by the President of the Republic, Gabriel Boric Font, following a selection process conducted by the Civil Service.

The National Economic Prosecutor studied Law at the University of Chile (2007), holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from Harvard University (2010), and a Master in Trade Regulation in Antitrust and Competition Policy (LL.M.) from New York University (2011).

“I assume the position of National Economic Prosecutor, honored by the appointment of the President of the Republic. It is a great responsibility to lead this technically-oriented institution, comprised of professionals and officials of excellence. We will continue to fulfill, with the rigor and independence that characterize the FNE, the mandate to defend and promote competition in the markets of our country, through the various powers conferred upon us by the law”, said the Prosecutor.

In more than 15 years of professional career, the Prosecutor has specialized in competition, economic regulation, and litigation.

After serving in 2011 as Advisor in Competition Law at the Office of International Affairs of the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, between 2012 and 2014 Jorge Grunberg was a lawyer with the Litigation Division of the FNE.

Subsequently, between 2014 and 2017, he advised the then Minister of Economy, Development, and Tourism, Luis Felipe Céspedes, on competition and consumer protection, playing an important role in the approval of Law No. 20.945 that improved the system that defends and promotes competition in the country.

During the last 5 years, Jorge Grunberg was a partner in Grunberg Puyol, a law firm specialized in competition.

The Prosecutor has been Professor of Economic Law and Competition Law at the Faculty of Law at the University of Chile since 2008 and has written several articles in competition.

Jorge Grunberg is the ninth lawyer to hold the position of National Economic Prosecutor. He succeeds Ricardo Riesco Eyzaguirre, who led the institution between the years 2018 and 2022.
